Second highest preliminary clearance rate of the year-to-date
There were 1,574 auctions held across Australia’s capital cities last week, up 9.9% from the week prior (1,432), but 11.4% lower than the same week last year (1,777).
The preliminary auction clearance rate ticked a little higher, rising to 74.4% last week, up from 72.2% the week prior (revised down to 68.0% which was the highest finalised clearance rate since March 2024). This was the second highest preliminary clearance rate so far this year, after the final week of June at 74.5%, and the sixth straight week where the preliminary clearance rate has held above the 70% mark.
There were 678 auctions held in Melbourne last week, up from 628 the week prior. 76.7% of auctions have reported a successful result based on results collected so far, a solid rise on the previous week (70.5%) and the highest preliminary clearance rate since May 2023.
In Sydney, 587 homes went to auction last week, up from 556 the previous week. The preliminary clearance rate came in at 74.8%, down from 76.2% the week prior and the sixth straight week where the preliminary clearance rate has held above 70%.
Brisbane hosted the most auctions across the smaller capitals last week, with 155 homes going under the hammer. 68.4% of auctions have reported a successful result so far, up from 61.3% the previous week.
There were 90 homes auctioned in Adelaide last week, up from 75 the week prior. 71.7% of auctions have been reported as successful so far.
ACT hosted 55 auctions with a preliminary clearance rate of 65.8% last week.
Just six homes were auctioned in Perth last week, with two of the three auctions reported so far returning a successful result. In Tasmania, two of the three auction results have been collected so far, one of which was successful.
Approximately 1,710 capital city homes are currently scheduled for auction this week.
