Auction Market Preview - week ending 17 August 2025
Auction activity set to rise 25% week-on-week
There are 1,984 capital city homes scheduled for auction this week – the largest volume in seven weeks – and up 25% on last week when 1,587 auctions were held. Over the same week last year, 2,065 auctions were held across the combined capitals.
Melbourne is the busiest auction market this week, with 919 homes set to go under the hammer. Last week saw 742 homes taken to auction, while this time last year, 884 auctions were held across the city.
There are 757 homes scheduled for auction in Sydney this week, up 36.2% on last week when 556 auctions were held. Over the same week last year, 756 homes were taken to auction in Sydney.
Across the smaller capitals, auction activity is expected to rise everywhere except Canberra. There are 136 homes scheduled to go under the hammer in Brisbane this week, up from 124 last week. In Adelaide, 105 auctions are scheduled this week, up from 99 last week. There are 55 homes scheduled to go under the hammer in Canberra this week, down from 57 last week. Perth is set to see 11 homes taken to auction this week, compared to nine last week, while there is one auction scheduled in Tasmania this week, after three weeks of inactivity.
Auction activity is expected to rise further next week, with around 2,040 homes currently scheduled to go under the hammer across the combined capitals.
